Meet Chris Hastings. You may remember the name from Music to Your Mouth. But this time he’s headed back to the Bluff for a different reason. Chris will be joining Palmetto Bluff at the Artist Cottage April 24 through April 30 to share his multitude of talents with members and guests.
Monday, April 24th, Chris will host a Meet + Greet at the Artist Cottage. Swing by, have a cocktail and learn more about Chris’ side gig of crafting woodcock feather lapel and hat pins. These lapel and hat pins won Chris the 2010 Garden & Gun Made in the South Award in the Style category. Chris has also remained with the Made in the South Awards by continuing as a judge in previous years.
Chris’ love for the great outdoors has led him around the world, including Nova Scotia. And as April is Turkey Season in the great state of South Carolina, what’s more perfect than a turkey hunt with Chris Hastings and the Conservancy team at Palmetto Bluff? Well, the answer to that would be two turkey hunts. These hunts will be hosted on Tuesday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 26. Space is limited and participants must have a valid S.C. hunting license, a valid S.C. big game license, turkey tags, gun and gear for this experience.
As the owner and executive chef at Hot & Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, Chris and his team maintain a farm to table experience for their guests. Using celebrated purveyors, foragers, and artisans, the team at Hot & Hot Fish Club see these folks as true heroes. Take part in this experience with Chris on Thursday, April 27, as he hosts a Foraging + Field Lunch with Chris Bennett and Palmetto Bluff’s own Jay Walea. You’ll learn the ins-and-outs of how to forage wild edibles with true experts that know the land and the difference between safe and not so safe. Afterwards, you’ll dig into a field lunch deep in the woods of Palmetto Bluff – a revered tradition on the property.
In true Lowcountry hunting season fashion, join us for a Chef’s Game Dinner on Friday, April 28, at the Artist Cottage. This special dinner menu will feature some of the Hastings’ favorite game meats and local items harvested from the area.
Impressed with Chris’ “side gig”? We are too. On Saturday, April 29, join us as we go Crafting with Chris. This unique morning will include crafting quill pens, Hawthorn lapel pins, wing bone calls, and turkey foot mounts – just in time for turkey season.
On April 25 and 26, Chris will also be hosting Gallery Hours at the Artist Cottage. All are welcome to stop by and learn more about Chris’ talents. To learn more about Artist in Residence and the other exciting artisans coming our way, take a look at www.palmettobluffartist.com
