Take a look below to learn all about this week’s highlighted talent behind Field + Fire.

Travis Hayes Folk

New World Cartography revives the centuries old tradition of hand drawn and hand colored maps.  Our maps capture the history and feel of particular areas through originally designed maps.  Whether it is a map of Revolutionary and Civil War fortifications in the harbor of Charleston, SC or a map of hundreds of oyster varieties across the coasts of North America, our maps strive to engage and inform.  A New World Cartography map is a perfect balance of aesthetic and information.

Lynne Greene

Lynne started duck hunting with her dad when she was about 12-13 and loved it.  In 1999, she was working in advertising and one of the ladies was talking about skeet shooting and needed a 3rd for her team.  Lynne had one of her dad’s guns and started shooting the skeet league.  After a few months, she asked her dad if she could cut it down and he said yes…and the 2nd round after she got it back she shot a 23…which was up from her usual 17-19!  When that same club started hosting Sporting Clays shoots, Lynne and a friend started shooting every weekend.  They drove all over Texas and Oklahoma and Lynne shot over 5000 registered targets in 2004.  She has been shooting ever since and has traveled all across the US and even internationally…although that was just to take pictures.  After working in IT for many years, she feel that this job perfectly combines her personality (the ability to talk to anyone) and her love of shooting.

He has travels extensively in the United States to hunt with falcons and has exhibited birds of prey all over the Southeastern US.

As a wildlife artist, Steve received the Georgia Governor’s “Artist of Excellence” award: won the 1987 and 1988 Georgia Wildlife Management Area Stamps; was chosen in 1986, 1987, and 1990 Georgia Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year; and worked on a national level with Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Erik Holmsberg

Stark was founded on my desire to create something tangible. I’d spent the previous decade building digital representations of things – ghosts that would vanish the moment they were unplugged. It began as a rediscovery of my own potential and became something much greater. I learned it wasn’t about me. It’s about all of us. Stark products rely on the hard work of countless artisans, craftspeople and makers that supply us with all of our materials. Once we’ve designed and produced our pieces, they travel to a network of tireless retailers who believe in what we do.

Our work is chosen and put to use by the people who sustain the movement. Some of them buy for the look, others for the feel and everyone appreciates the durability. And we like to think that buying something made in America is part of that equation as well.

We believe in real things made by real people. We believe in products that stand the test of time and earn the investment made in them. We believe in fair wages for hard work and opportunity for anyone willing to learn.

Tom Mauldin

Hook N Hide, Inc. is a small belt buckle company located in Charleston, SC.  It was created by Tom Mauldin, an avid outdoorsman and artist.  Born in Louisiana and raised in South Carolina, Tom grew up hunting and fishing in the great outdoors of the Southeast.  It was through his passion for fishing, and an appreciation for the natural beauty of the Southern Coasts that inspired the creation of HookNHide, LLC in 2008.  Designed by Tom, each belt buckleis handcrafted, making it a unique and wearable piece of art.  The buckles are made of “tumbaga”, a non-specific mixture of different metals, including brass, copper, gold and pewter.  The blending of these metals gives the buckles a rustic and handsome patina that increases over time.

There is no room for bore in the colorful life of Emily McCarthy. Small town girl turned coastal living designer, you’ll be in for a treat to the senses in her world of geometric patterns and prosecco (don’t forget a dash of cheetah). As she resides in Savannah, Georgia with her college sweetheart turned husband and little red-headed, blue-eyed babes. Coastal living gives her life. Her popular online presence is now a real life sensory experience right on Abercorn Street.
